Thank you to the 200+ survivors that engaged with us throughout this project. To all our sister/sibling organizations and facilitators, thank you. To all the survivors, we see you and thank you for showing up and sharing space.
To Micah, thank you for being the heartbeat of this project. You are valued and your work appreciated.
Funded by the City of Toronto and WAGE our 2019-2020 Heal and Thrive Series provided workshops by and for survivors. See the facilitator’s bio’s, the survivor’s testimonials and the incredible artwork Yalla Roza created for this series. At the end of our series, community knowledge was translated into…
Our online Resources for Survivors package. This curated guide offers diverse supports, resources, and services for all survivors of gender-based and sexual violence. This is a living document that we will be updating and maintained with community input.
Our Survivors Heal + Thrive Book (coming in July 2020), which is a curated combination of art, affirmations, and facilitator knowledge for survivors. This means that facilitators are able to share their knowledge and the Dandelion Initiative is able to amplify their skills beyond the people who attended each workshop.

Survivor-Centred Peer Support
DURATION: 2.5 HOURS
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 5 - 25 Max
This workshop builds on a basic understanding of trauma and its impacts on survivors of gender-based violence.
We introduce and explore a holistic view of survivor-centred peer support while disseminating resiliency and care tools. We teach various modalities for providing survivor-centred peer support, which is trauma-informed, intersectional, and uses a peer model, at its core.
After a short break, participants can choose to explore a variety of scenarios, needs, and questions they may come across when providing peer support for a survivor in their life or through their work.
This work is rooted in empowerment modalities and practices that provide survivors with safer opportunities to disclose or seek support.
This workshop is great for anyone interested in supporting survivors or any practitioner looking for a survivor-centred practice.
If you would like an introduction to trauma and trauma care, please consider our Survivors Thrive workshop.
Survivors Thrive
DURATION: 2.5 HOURS
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 3 - 15
- Uses an intersectional feminist trauma recovery lens
- Uses empowerment modalities to engage participants in discussions around trauma impacts and recovery paths
- Uses a Survivor Centric framework to share tools and skills to understand trauma and recovery
- Utilizes teachings from Judith Herman, Renee Linklater, Bessel Van Der Kolk and other trauma care leaders
- Offers Culturally Attuned exploration of recovery and surviving
- Uses psychoeducational education models, this session is not a space for processing individual
trauma within the group, as we just don’t have the capacity within a group setting to offer the care individual disclosures need. Your facilitator is open to exploring questions, offerings, resources and “advice” if consent is given for advice.
- Offers you tools, resources, avenues for recovery, healing and survival
- Offers participants a chance to request 1:1 trauma care support based on the organization and lead facilitators capacity
- Offers you a space to learn from survivors and educators about resilience, recovery and healing from a survivors lens.
- Provides you with a follow up feedback sheet to express your feelings or thoughts about the session
